Link found between Facebook use and eating disorders

By JUDY SIEGEL-ITZKOVICH

University of Haifa study authors advise parents to supervise their children’s web use in order to reduce the danger.

The more teenage girls are involved in Facebook, the higher their risk of having a negative body image and developing eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia, according to a new University of Haifa study, whose authors advise parents to supervise their children’s Web use in order to reduce the danger.

Prof. Yael Letzer, Prof. Ruth Katz and Zohar Spivak (who studied the matter for her doctoral thesis) of the Social Welfare and Health Sciences Faculty studied two factors involved in eating disorders among a sample of 248 Jewish secular adolescent girls aged 12 to 18: exposure to the media and personal empowerment.

The girls, with a median age of 14.8, were asked about their TV-watching, Internet and magazine-reading habits. Regarding television, the girls were queried about whether they watched popular shows that present an extreme focus on Barbie doll-like “beautiful, voluptuous and thin” women. They also filled out questionnaires on their desire to be thin, satisfaction (or lack of same) with their bodies, weight and eating.

Tracy Morgan got his kideny from his GF then left her…

What’s love got to do with my giving up a body part?
Did she give up an organ in the hopes of acquiring a lifestyle? (These are just questions)

MediaTakeOut.com just got a very SHOCKING report from one of Tracy Morgan’s ex-Tanisha’s friends.
Remember a couple of weeks ago when MediaTakeOut.com reported to you that Tracy got a KIDNEY TRANSPLANT. He was diagnosed with diabetes a while back, and continued to live RECKLESSLY – so he destroyed both his kidneys. Anyways, guess where he got the kidney from . . . . his EX-GF TANISHA. Yes . . . she gave dude HER KIDNEY!!!

You know George Lopez’s wife gave him a kidney or part of a liver and shortly after they filed for divorce, can she get that back as a part of her settlement? But they were married and had been for a long while, these two where merely dating the report says they had broken up when she offered -perhaps in an effort to get him back. My body My heavens! What do you think about that? would you give up a body part to a lover, or spouse? The saddest thing is if she is depressed about being one kidney lighter and single she can’t even drink away her sorrows.

Ladies an important tip hosted by Kim Kardashian

If you don’t want people to see your body.
If you don’t want your image exploited.
Then keep your damned clothes on.

she looks really sorry about this huh?

Either put you clothes on and sit down or own it, collect the check and keep it moving, but this whining about being taken advantage of is growing tiresome. Kim K.I.M (keep it moving I like it)

Giuliana Rancic: Infertility Has Nothing To Do With Weight

Giuliana Rancic is still struggling with infertility, and she says it has nothing to do with her weight, pointing to other skinny celebs who have managed to conceive. She tells Radaronline.com:

“Look at Kelly Ripa! She’s half my size and has no body fat and has kids.

Giselle (Bundchen) is a supermodel, and I’ve pinched her in real life just to see if she has body fat — zero body fat! Look at Victoria Beckham, she’s on her fourth child.
I personally believe that Rancic does have some body issues, I feel that she is obsessed with being thin. In fact one of the reasons I can’t watch her red carpet coverage is because every actress that she speaks to she mentions how “Thin” and “Great” they look, she asks them how the stay that way? and what is their work out? Now that may not seem so strange, but it is EVERY single woman she seems covetous. When she was on the View years ago at the start of her reality series they queried her on her weight and her inability to get pregnant, and she got livid. Later she did put on weight and indeed GOT pregnant (Which kind of proves that it was an issue) and perhaps her body could not sustain the pregnancy (there are many reasons why miscarriages happen- whatever they may be– it is heart breaking). Though she is a petite woman her thinness looks effortful- and she look much healthier when she gained the 7lbs. (though I have no “proof”) Courtney Cox was painfully thin at the end of friends and suffered several miscarriages – she put on weight and conceived. Of course every case is different and individual, but if you want to have a child and be a mother, shouldn’t weight be the least of your worries? This is one of the reasons I feel she might have some issues.

Raven-Symone Shows Off Dramatic Weight Loss, Talks Body

“Actually, now I wear bigger clothes because I don’t like the way people stare at me,” she told People. “I liked it before. Now, you’re just looking at me for the wrong reasons. Before, you were actually looking at me for a real reason.”

I said the same thing!!! There is something about “looking good” meaning the way that we “want” to look, and feeling attractive, that makes us brace ourselves for the unwanted attention. It makes us self-conscious in a different way. Damned if we do damned if we don’t!

Katy Perry’s New “Diet” umm sounds a bit Disordered…

In the new Rolling Stone Magazine Perry talks about how she is getting in shape for her upcoming tour. She is on a meal plan for 6 days and then gorges herself with all that she wants on the 7th. Remember what Natalie our nutritionist said about “diets” and how “They often lead to overeating” . We heard the concept of having a cheat day before it’s nothing new, but as we are trying to change our mentality about our bodies and food, perhaps we should come up with a eating plan that doesn’t make us feel criminal or label things as “Bad”. Just a thought!

‘Am I Too Fat?’

BY TINA KELLEY

WHITE PLAINS — THE two friends shopping at The Westchester mall figured the serious talk about dieting started about a year ago.

The two, Catherine Gray, 14, of Eastchester, and Maria Fufidio, 15, of Larchmont, say that they have tried dieting, and that they have a friend who, before she got her navel pierced, lost 10 pounds on the South Beach diet, which limits bread, potatoes and other carbohydrates.

”We go to an all-girls school,” Catherine said, reciting what she said was a typical dialogue at the Ursuline School in New Rochelle:

”I think I’m going to get a bag of chips.”

”I’m so fat.”

The Athletic Body as an Ideal for Girls

By Tina Kelley

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON — JEAN ZIMMERMAN and Gil Reavill, who live in Hastings-on-Hudson, traveled around the country interviewing girls before writing ”Raising Our Athletic Daughters,” (1998, Doubleday), about the impact of sports on girls’ lives. In an interview at their home, joined by their 12-year-old daughter, Maud, they discussed how athletic activity can protect girls from eating disorders, provided they do not take it to extremes.

The couple have seen girls who are less than svelte gain confidence by excelling in sports, as did one basketball player Mr. Reavill said he knew.

”She was out there, a leader on that team,” Mr. Reavill said of the ballplayer. ”I thought about what her life would be like normally, with kids in the halls poking fun at her. She did not have a supermodel image, but she did find an arena where her body was a positive and effective thing.”
