  1. Thanks for bringing attention to the dancers path which is so often misunderstood because of the lack of opportunity that did and does exist for black professioal ballet dancers. Doris Jones and Claire Haywood , the founders and directors of Jones-Haywood School of Ballet, Washington, D.C. provided professional training and performance opportunities for many decades, producing amazing dancers that continue to perform and teach to this day! Sandra Fortune-Green continues this tradition for our community. Perhaps we should invest in our cultural instituitions instead of placing the burden of proof on one persons shoulders.
